Life is not all about making a buck for yourself, sometimes you just need to something to help others in need - at least that's my philosophy. For the last 12 years I've been coordinating an online auction to benefit the Alaska Airlines Employee Assistance Fund - an amazing program this is set up as a 501 3(c) non-profit. The fund exists to provide a safety net of financial support to employees who are unable to work due to illness or injury. Once their vacation and sick leave are gone, the Fund steps in and pays the employee's bills (mortgage, medical, insurance, food, utilities) until they are able to return to work. The auction raises money for the fund and occurs for two weeks in the fall. www.eafauction.com. I'm responsible for all of the photography, data entry, and item descriptions.
I'm happy to report that my collaboration with Witt Associates and our proposal to conduct the Transportation Recover Annex training and exercise was successful. We will be traveling around the Puget Sound region delivering training, conducting exercises and leaving each of the 8-counties in the region with a full Train-the-Trainers packets so the years of hard work on the Regional Catastrophic plan won't go to waste and be forgotten.
The Bellingham Airport Triennial Crash exercise is finally completed and put to bed. It was a lot of fun working with so many different agencies in the small community. You never know what conditions you will face in a full-scale, outdoors exercise. During the SeaTac Exercise in July, our crash victims were huddled under mylar blankets and shivering, while the victims in Bellingham in last September were over-heated and sunburned from unseasonably high temps.
